What do i need to know about taking in a stray cat?

well i've decided to get cat and there's a kitten living in the bushes in front of my house and I'd like to "adopt" it so what do i need to know other that that i have to take him to the vet and get him neutered and vaccinated? will the cat misbehave in any way like spraying all around the house and will it need to be tamed?
